University Of Florida To Honor Tom Petty With Posthumous PhD In Music

The legacy of late, great singer songwriter Tom Petty will be honored with a PhD in music by the University of Florida following a unanimous vote by the board of trustees. 
 Though Petty never actually attended the university, he was born and raised in Gainesville, the location of the school, and worked as a groundskeeper there prior to embarking on his music career. 
 Following his death in 2017, the university paid tribute to Petty by playing his song 'I Won't Back Down' during a Florida Gators football game. You can check out that footage below.
